WhatsApp Business News: Every Meta Update in One Place (November 2026)
SendSeven Team, Editorial Team
Every change Meta publishes for WhatsApp Business, Instagram and Messenger, updated continuously, with the date, the source and what it means for businesses. Right now: service messages paid since October 1, marketing on the Cloud API ends on October 13, 2027, and business usernames can only change twice in 14 days.
TL;DR
This page collects every change Meta publishes for WhatsApp Business, Instagram and Messenger, with the date, a linked source and what it means for your business. The three most important of the past weeks: since October 1, 2026, service replies inside the 24-hour window are paid, with the first 1,000 per phone number per month free. On October 21, Meta announced it will stop marketing messages on the Cloud API on October 13, 2027; after that, marketing runs only through the Marketing Messages API. SendSeven already sends marketing messages through it, so nothing changes for customers. And since October 23, a business can change its username only twice in 14 days.
What has changed at WhatsApp Business lately?

- October 23: Business usernames can only be changed twice in 14 days.
- October 12 and 23: Government bodies and non-profits can check whether their service messages stay free.
- October 21: Meta ends marketing on the Cloud API on October 13, 2027. Same day: quarterly results with $1.1B from paid messaging and subscriptions.
- October 20: Embedded Signup v5 turns Coexistence on by default.
November 2026
November 1, 2026: Meta retires the conversation_analytics endpoint
Since November 1, the conversation_analytics endpoint no longer returns data. Cost and volume reporting runs through pricing_analytics, whose categories have matched the new pricing logic since October 1.
What does this mean for businesses? If you feed your own cost dashboards straight from Meta's API, switch to pricing_analytics. If you use WhatsApp through a platform, you usually do not need to do anything. In SendSeven you see message volume, delivery and costs in the analytics dashboard.

October 2026
October 29, 2026: Messenger ties replies to the marketing campaign
Messages from Meta's Messenger API now carry a marketing_message_id when a customer replies to a marketing message. Only the app that sent the campaign receives it.
What does this mean for businesses? Replies to Messenger campaigns can be attributed to the right campaign without your own tracking parameters. More about the channel on our Facebook Messenger page.

October 26, 2026: Meta's developer MCP creates apps and business portfolios
The Social Technologies MCP, Meta's MCP server for developers, has six new tools: it can create apps, find or create business portfolios, link the two, and list and add use cases. Four of them change data and ask for confirmation first. Meta is rolling the feature out gradually.
What does this mean for businesses? AI assistants can now take over more of the setup inside your Meta account. Only allow the write tools deliberately, ideally with a test account first. For the daily work after that, there is SendSeven's MCP server: an AI assistant such as Claude can read your conversations across WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, Messenger, Instagram and email, manage contacts, and send messages, WhatsApp templates and campaigns, within the permissions of the signed-in team member.

October 23, 2026: Business usernames can only change twice in 14 days
A business can now change its WhatsApp username at most twice within a rolling 14-day window. Going over the limit returns error 130429.
What does this mean for businesses? You can no longer change the username on a whim, so plan the switch in advance. How to pick and secure the right name is in our business username guide.

October 12 and 23, 2026: The exemption for government bodies and non-profits becomes checkable
Since October 1, service messages beyond the free tier stay free only for eligible government bodies and non-profit organizations, until December 31, 2027. Since October 12, Meta marks those messages with paid_exempt in the status webhook, and since October 23 the service_pricing_policy field shows PAID_EXEMPT or REGULAR for every account.
What does this mean for businesses? Most businesses are REGULAR and pay the normal service rate. Charities, foundations and public bodies can now check whether Meta lists them as exempt.

October 21, 2026: Meta ends marketing messages on the Cloud API
Meta will stop marketing messages on the WhatsApp Cloud API on October 13, 2027. After that, they run only through the Marketing Messages API for WhatsApp. Accounts created on or after April 13, 2027 cannot send marketing on the Cloud API even before that date. Phone numbers and templates carry over, and Meta says most integrations take about two weeks on average. Utility messages that Meta reclassifies as marketing must move to the new API as well.

What does this mean for businesses? If you send marketing directly on the Cloud API, you need to switch by October 2027, and new accounts from April 2027. SendSeven already sends marketing messages through the Marketing Messages API, so nothing changes for customers. More about campaigns with SendSeven.

October 21, 2026: Quarterly results show $1.1B from paid messaging and subscriptions
Meta's Family of Apps other revenue rose to $1.1B in the third quarter, up 59% year on year. Meta says paid WhatsApp messaging and subscriptions make up most of it. Total revenue was $64.6B (up 26%). Meta One passed 15 million subscriptions and trials.
What does this mean for businesses? Business messaging has become a business of its own for Meta. Expect prices and products around WhatsApp to keep moving, and plan campaign budgets with some headroom. With SendSeven, Meta bills its fees to you directly and SendSeven shows its own fee separately; more on the pricing page.

October 20, 2026: Embedded Signup v5 turns Coexistence on by default
In version 5 of Meta's Embedded Signup, Coexistence is now the default: businesses can connect their WhatsApp Business app number straight to the API and use both side by side. Versions 2 and 3 have been deprecated since October 15.
What does this mean for businesses? If you use the WhatsApp Business app today, you can move to the API and keep the app you know. With SendSeven, too, you connect your number through Coexistence and the app keeps running alongside; how it works is in our Coexistence guide.

October 15 and 19, 2026: Max price beta gets more country rules and its own billing identifier
In the max price beta for marketing messages, advertisers can now set up to 240 country-specific overrides per template instead of 50. From the November 1 invoice, Meta marks max-price messages with their own billing identifier.
What does this mean for businesses? This only affects campaigns in the beta. If you are in it, you can now tell those costs apart on your invoice.

October 1, 2026: Service messages become paid
Since October 1, Meta charges service replies and utility messages inside the 24-hour window at the utility rate of each market, with no volume tiers; in Germany that is €0.0456. The first 1,000 service messages per phone number per month stay free, and unused ones do not roll over. Service had been free since November 1, 2024, and in-window utility since July 1, 2025. Inbound messages and the free entry point window after a click-to-WhatsApp ad stay free. Meta published the exact rates on September 1.
What does this mean for businesses? If you handle a lot of customer service on WhatsApp, you now pay from the 1,001st reply per number, and for in-window utility messages from the first one. Add a payment method at Meta, otherwise Meta stops delivering from the 1,001st service message in a month. Meta bills you directly, and SendSeven shows its own fee separately. What that costs in practice is worked through in our article on WhatsApp pricing in 2026.

October 1, 2026: A new rate card with 40 changed rates
With the October rate card, Meta changed 40 rates. Marketing got more expensive in seven markets. The German marketing rate stayed the same, and Poland is listed as its own, much cheaper market.
What does this mean for businesses? If you send to several countries, check your campaign math. Every country and percentage is in our pricing article.

October 1, 2026: Max price for marketing messages enters open beta
Through the Marketing Messages API, advertisers can set a maximum price per 1,000 deliveries (bid_amount). Meta plans general availability for the second quarter of 2027; after that, max price is meant to become mandatory in eligible regions.
What does this mean for businesses? For now it is a beta. It becomes relevant in 2027, once Meta sets the rules for eligible regions. We will add that here.

September 2026
September 23, 2026: Marketing Messages API reports landing page views
A new landing_page_view webhook event fires when a recipient opens the landing page after tapping a link in a marketing message.
What does this mean for businesses? The path from WhatsApp message to website becomes measurable without your own tracking.

September 15, 2026: Meta launches an MCP server for WhatsApp Business
The WhatsApp Business Tools MCP lets AI assistants set up a WhatsApp account: check the terms, create a business account, verify and register the number with a code, manage templates, send test messages and configure webhooks. It is discoverable in Claude, Codex and ChatGPT. Meta stresses that it is not meant for sending at scale.
What does this mean for businesses? Initial setup can be handed to an AI assistant. Meta says its server is not meant for day-to-day sending. That is what SendSeven's MCP server is for: an AI assistant such as Claude can read your conversations across WhatsApp, Telegram, SMS, Messenger, Instagram and email, manage contacts, and send messages, WhatsApp templates and campaigns.

September 15, 2026: Meta One brings subscription plans to businesses
Meta introduced Meta One for businesses in four plans: Essential at $14.99 a month, Advanced at $49.99, Expert at $149 and Max at $499, billed per profile. Essential includes the verified badge, a verified channel in the WhatsApp Business app, impersonation protection and more Meta Business Agent usage, among other things.

What does this mean for businesses? The badge on WhatsApp now comes as part of a subscription. Whether it pays off depends on how much your customers look for the check mark. How account, portfolio and number fit together at Meta is explained in our article on the WhatsApp Business Account.

August 2026
August 1, 2026: Meta Business Agent becomes paid
Since August 1, Meta bills its own AI assistant, the Meta Business Agent, by tokens: $2.00 per 1M tokens. Meta says a typical message uses 20,000 to 25,000 tokens, roughly 4 to 5 cents. A payment method must be on file.
What does this mean for businesses? The price applies only to Meta's own AI assistant. SendSeven's AI agents are separate and come with the Professional plan and up: besides WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger they also work across email, SMS, live chat and Telegram, read images and PDFs, answer from your own knowledge base and hand over to your team when needed. They understand voice messages on WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger and Instagram as a beta feature. Billing follows SendSeven's AI credits, not Meta's token price.

July 2026
July 29, 2026: Messaging and subscriptions pass $1B in a quarter for the first time
Meta's Family of Apps other revenue reached $1B for the first time in the second quarter, up 73% year on year, driven mainly by paid WhatsApp messaging and subscriptions. Meta says more than a million businesses use Business Agents every week.
What does this mean for businesses? Meta is investing heavily in AI assistants on WhatsApp. That raises customer expectations of a fast reply, in the evening and on weekends too. With SendSeven's AI agents you answer questions outside office hours from your own knowledge base and hand tricky cases to your team.

July 29, 2026: Graph API v26.0 adds more ad formats to WhatsApp Status
Ads in WhatsApp Status can now show carousels of up to ten cards and optimize for landing page views. The Messenger Stories placement is gone, in all API versions since October 27.
What does this mean for businesses? If you ran Messenger Stories ads, move them elsewhere. WhatsApp Status is becoming a full ad placement. When customers start a chat from a click-to-WhatsApp ad, SendSeven's analytics dashboard shows how many chats each ad started.

June 2026
June 29, 2026: WhatsApp usernames can be reserved
Since June 29, users and businesses can reserve a WhatsApp username of 3 to 35 characters. When a customer contacts a business only by username, the business receives a separate ID instead of the phone number.

What does this mean for businesses? Secure your brand name early. Step by step in our guides for businesses and for personal accounts. Customers who message you only by username land in SendSeven as a regular contact, even without a phone number.

June 11, 2026: Messenger marketing gets unsubscribe and scheduling
Marketing messages on Messenger now have an unsubscribe API, start and end times for campaigns, and a send block while a chat with that person has only just been active.
What does this mean for businesses? Opt-outs can be processed automatically, and campaigns do not land in the middle of an ongoing chat. In SendSeven you answer Messenger replies in the same inbox as WhatsApp, Instagram and five more channels.

June 9, 2026: EU Commission orders free access for rival AI assistants
The European Commission imposed interim measures on Meta: rival general-purpose AI assistants must again be allowed to use the WhatsApp Business API on the terms in force before October 15, 2025, within five working days. Meta has said it will appeal.
What does this mean for businesses? This concerns providers of general-purpose AI chatbots, not businesses using their own AI to serve customers. Background in our glossary entry on the WhatsApp AI policy. For your own customer service, SendSeven offers AI agents that answer from your own knowledge base and can be switched off at any time.

June 3, 2026: Meta introduces the Meta Business Agent
At its Conversations conference in London, Meta introduced the Meta Business Agent, an AI assistant that replies on WhatsApp on a business's behalf. It started free, and Meta announced paid tiers at the same time.
What does this mean for businesses? Since August the agent costs money (see above), and it only replies inside Meta's own apps WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. If you also want to serve customers automatically by email, SMS, live chat or Telegram, SendSeven's AI agents cover all of these channels from one inbox, with answers from your own knowledge base and handover to your team.

How do we check updates?
Every entry rests on a source from Meta itself: developer changelogs, the Meta for Developers Blog, the newsroom, the WhatsApp Business Blog or Meta's investor pages. Where Meta has published nothing itself, we need at least two independent media reports. We do not use competitor content as a source.
Features spotted only in beta versions of the app are labeled "spotted in beta". New items always go at the top, and the date is the date of publication or of taking effect. Our news radar checks the sources every day.
