Messaging Account
A Messaging Account is the part of Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform, introduced in 2026, that holds one provider's templates, payment method and webhooks. Every provider gets its own Messaging Account, so the same WhatsApp number can be used with several providers at once.
What is a Messaging Account?
A Messaging Account is the part of the WhatsApp Business Platform that holds one provider's message templates, payment method, webhooks and analytics. It comes from splitting the former WhatsApp Business Account (WABA): the phone number, profile and quality rating now live in the WhatsApp account, while templates and billing live in the Messaging Account.
- One account per provider: every provider you use a number with gets its own Messaging Account.
- Fully separate: one provider's templates, billing and metrics stay separate from every other provider's.
- A familiar ID: after the change, your existing WABA ID identifies the Messaging Account.
Why does it matter?
Until now, a WhatsApp number was tied to exactly one provider. Switching meant releasing the number from the old provider and migrating it. With Messaging Accounts, the same number can be used with several providers at the same time, much like the WhatsApp Business App and the API share one number with WhatsApp Coexistence.
Meta charges each message to the Messaging Account of the provider that sent it. Without a payment method, a Messaging Account cannot send paid messages. Throughput and the messaging limit, on the other hand, are shared by every provider on a number. Meta converts existing accounts automatically in the second half of 2026, and every new sign-up through Embedded Signup creates its own Messaging Account.
Practical example
An online retailer has sent shipping notifications through one provider for years and wants to move to a platform with a shared inbox. It connects its existing number to the new provider as well, and Meta creates a second Messaging Account for it.
The retailer adds a payment method there, submits its templates again and runs both providers in parallel for two weeks. Its customers keep writing to the same number the whole time. Only then does it end the old contract and remove the previous provider's access.
Messaging Accounts and SendSeven
When you connect WhatsApp in SendSeven through Embedded Signup, Meta automatically creates a separate Messaging Account for SendSeven, including for a number that already runs with another provider. Your current provider does not have to be switched off yet: you test SendSeven with your real number and switch once everything runs. You add the payment method in Meta Business Suite, and Meta bills you directly for message fees.
